The Gembira Loka Zoo is a vast complex containing many animal enclosures, a botanical garden and scenic grounds. Spread out across a picturesque region of 54 acres (22 hectares), the zoo contains around 470 animals. Bring the kids to the children’s park for a fun day out with the family.
Spot some of the most intriguing animals, such as the Komodo dragons, the viper snakes and the bear cats. Tropical birds, including parrots, add color and grace to the collection.
Meander through the trees that make up the orchid nursery. Lay down a blanket on the banks of the large artificial lake and enjoy a picnic. The botanical garden contains an interesting range of plant species, with a mosque in its center.
Bring your kids to the touch pool, where they can dip their hands in water and feel the slippery skin of the aquatic creatures. Let fish nibble the dry skin of your feet in the fish therapy section.
Ride a boat on the river for a thrilling ride. Choose from speedboats, catamarans and bumper boats. Take a pedal boat out on the water with your kids or ride the thrilling banana boat orca. Transport is just as innovative on the ground, with elephant and camel rides available. Drive an ATV four-wheeler through a dirt track.
Visit the zoo daily from early morning until late afternoon. Note that the entrance fee is slightly higher on weekends and public holidays.
